Review of Polling Districts, Polling Places and Polling Stations in Craven District

The Parish Council has received the following information from Craven District Council Electoral Services Officer:

” You may be aware that the Council has a legal duty to review all polling districts and polling places every five years. The last review took place in 2014. The Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013 amended the review periods and the next review must be completed by the 31st January 2020.

The Council has now published a ‘Notice of Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places’. The consultation, which began this week, asks for views on any aspect of polling districts or polling places currently used. As well as commenting on the suitability of existing polling stations, people are also invited to suggest new ones.

Any registered elector within the Craven District boundary can take part. Representations are also invited from groups, organisations, councillors and any person or body with expertise in access for people with any type of disability.

Representations may be made by email to elections@cravendc.gov.uk or by post to Electoral Services, Craven District Council, 1 Belle Vue Square, Broughton Road, Skipton BD23 1FJ.

The consultation period will end on the 23rd November 2018. The (Acting) Returning Officer has published his initial proposals and representations on these proposals can be made until the consultation closes. A copy of these proposals is attached, along with a copy of the notice and a spreadsheet providing information about current polling places. Please feel free to post a copy of the notice on any notice boards within your parish.”

Is Craven District Council proposed Housing Plan for Rathmell acceptable?

Some of you will remember the CDC presentation about this; delivered at the Reading Room last year. The planners showed maps of the areas available for new housing in Rathmell and talked about building 45 new dwellings on these sites – on average, three houses per year for 15 years. Many of us left the presentation uneasy about the proposals but with the distinct feeling that the matter had already been decided. Thankfully, David Wilkinson decided to look into the proposed plan in more detail and unearthed some interesting figures from the CDC website. Last month, David and I looked again at his findings and summarised them in a couple of pages for presentation to a Ribblebanks Parish Council meeting. The material was well received by this meeting. View these two important documents here: CDC local plan CDC Proposed Local Plan for Housing David and I then decided to make the information more widely available to the community so the two pages that we gave to RPC are now presented here. A final decision on the CDC proposals will be reached shortly and we reckon that an active and well-informed community is more likely to give rise to wise decisions! Neither of us is opposed to increasing the number of dwellings in the village but we do think that development has to be appropriate and proportionate and, for us, the current proposals are excessive, especially when compared with what is suggested for other parishes. We would be interested to know your thoughts on the proposal by emailing editor@rathmellvillage.org.uk Please note – ‘Central Rathmell’ refers to the housing on either side of the main road and closest to this road – Gooselands etc. ‘Far Rathmell’ is the area up Hesley Lane and Mill Lane. ‘Scattered Rathmell’ is all the other dwellings and farms dotted around the rest of the parish.
