Closure Repurposing of Rathmell School
Following a unanimous decision by the School Governors, and a brief consultation period in the community, Rathmell School was closed as a primary school on 31st August 2017.
Following this much-lamented decision (it was a truly fantastic school!), the School Trustees, led by Jacky Frankland, consulted with the village and acquired ownership / stewardship of the school premises on behalf of the village itself.
The school has now been re-opened as a community resource, and “renamed” Rathmell Old School. Since re-opening, the trustees have put a huge amount of personal effort into redecorating, organising, maintaining, kitting out, baking, publicising, welcoming and generally Doing Things to make sure that the building is put to good use for the village. Popular weekly fitness classes are held, as are monthly family days (with a bouncy castle! in the school hall!) and tea afternoons. All the school’s rooms and spaces are available for hire by the community. More details can be found on the school’s website: rathmellschool.co.uk
