What would you like for the future of the Reading Room?

Rathmell Reading Room has been dedicated to villagers since 1901, but now finds itself in the unusual position of no longer having a full committee to manage events. At the most recent commitee meeting – the first since Covid – 13 people attended, but ten either submitted their resignations or indicated they’re stepping down soon, several after 30+ years of arranging, organising, catering, fund-raising, cleaning, promoting…

We now need to decide: do we still want our Village Hall?

It was decided we should ask our neighbours what we as a community would like to happen next at the Reading Room, so we have prepared a questionnaire to gather ideas and opinions (and to recruit new committee members, if that’s the path forward). Those who live in the centre of the village may have received the questionnaire through their letterbox; it’s up to you whether to fill out the paper version or this online form. Feel free to share the online form with anyone you think would have something to say (and to listen to) about the future of one of the village’s last remaining community spaces and services.

We’d like to gather replies by the 30th July, so we can collate ideas over the summer and discuss them at the next AGM in the autumn.
